You are a Champion: How To Be The Best You Can Be by Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford's book

BOOK REVIEW:

An inspirational read for any young person who wants to become the best version of themselves.

Be the best version of you.

Footballer, Marcus Rashford has co-written a wonderful book for young people with journalist Carl Anka and performance psychologist Katie Warriner about his own journey to success and inspires youngsters who read it to believe in their dream and make that dream BIG.

The book describes Marcus’s early childhood and the key people who have helped shape his values and beliefs growing up in Wythenshawe and becoming a Manchester United player.

The book is split into easy to read chapters covering the key messages and action points that Marcus wants to share with young readers. Marcus encourages readers that anything is possible with hard work, a positive attitude, and surrounding yourself with the right people.

He encourages readers to become happy with who they are and to practice long and hard accepting mistakes as an inevitable part of the learning process rather than something to be avoided. He shares his setbacks and describes how they have shaped the man and the player he has become. He has huge respect for his family and friends and shows how important it is to treat them well and stay true to those who supported you through the highs and lows of his journey to becoming a footballer.

He describes some of the teachers who helped him to develop a love of learning and encourages readers to never listen to anyone who says you can’t do something but to believe in yourself and strive to be the best you can be.

I would encourage teachers and parents to read this as well as kids. It would make for a great class read with opportunities to explore the themes with children. This book will appeal to sporty kids but has some wonderful, empowering messages for all children (and grown-ups too!)
